Message From Vice-Chancellor

Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam is a distinguished academic leader currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Trust University, Barishal, Bangladesh. Dr. Islam has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Trust University by the Honorable Chancellor and President of People's Republic of Bangladesh. His impressive educational journey includes graduating in Agriculture from BAU in 1995, followed by earning an MS in Plant Pathology from BAU in 2003 and a PhD from the University of Patuakhali Science and Technology University in 2012. Notably, he received a World Bank Scholarship and Fellowship Award under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Before assuming his role as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Islam held key positions at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), such as Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Under his dynamic leadership, PSTU witnessed remarkable advancements in pedagogy, curriculum development, and research, positioning the university as a leader in its field. He also served as the Head of the Department of Plant Pathology, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, and Director of the Research and Training Center (RTC).

Professor Islam's contributions extend to various professional associations, including being a Life Member of the Bangladesh Phytopathological Society and the elected General Secretary of the PSTU Teachers' Association. He has gained extensive experience in academic program management and administration, serving as a member of the Academic Council and Regent Board of PSTU since 2021. Additionally, he has offered his expertise as an external expert member of curriculum and appointment committees for professors and associate professors at different public universities.

His academic prowess is reflected in his authorship of over 30 papers in reputable refereed journals and his supervision of more than 40 MS and 2 PhD students. Professor Islam's involvement in research project evaluation, including serving on the peer review committee for the Ministry of Science and Technology in Bangladesh, further demonstrates his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge. He has directed nine research projects as a project director and holds the role of Legal Entity Appointed Representative (LEAR) for PSTU in projects sponsored by the European Commission (EC) since 2015. As a resource person, he conducted more than 40 training programs and workshops at different universities.

Furthermore, Professor Shahidul Islam has contributed to the academic community by serving as an editor for several prestigious journals. He also directed the project "Establishment of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell at PSTU" under HEQEP, funded by the World Bank, emphasizing his dedication to enhancing educational quality.

His commitment to quality assurance is exemplified by his role as an enlisted Academic Auditor of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC). Additionally, he serves as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee at Barishal University, representing the University Grants Commission (UGC) in Bangladesh. As an external peer reviewer (Quality Expert), he has evaluated Self-Assessment Reports and Assessment activities of various universities under HEQEP, funded by the World Bank. Beyond his academic commitments, Prof. Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam has a passion for hiking, reading, and mentoring young scholars. His unwavering dedication to lifelong learning serves as an inspiration to those around him and has transformed Trust University, Barishal into a hub of knowledge and innovation.

Shahidul Islam is a multifaceted academic leader whose remarkable contributions to education, research, quality assurance, and professional associations have left an indelible mark on the higher education landscape in Bangladesh.
